How To Use Shop Vac To Clean Pond

  1. Alter a Store Vac for bottom cleaning?

Has anyone tried altering a Shop Vac for bottom cleaning of a small swimming? That is, create an overflow where the water continually runs out via a h2o line vs. just filling the canister and having to empty it?

I heighten fish indoors and just demand to vacuum out the lesser of a rotating biological contact filter tank where sloughed off dead floc builds up along with some iron. I want to rid the tank of anything that tin can cease up feeding heterotrophic bacteria and out compete the autotrophs.

I see Store Vacs of all sizes for sale at the local Menards including a small portable unit for only $15.00.

  2. Haven't given much thought to it but, I believe one of the major dilemmas is if at that place is a secondary hole, the "vacuum" activeness will be Profoundly reduced! I've e'er used the Oase Pondovac 3 & 4 for continual suction both personally & professionally for maintenance/clean-outs.

  3. Lowe's sell a moisture/dry vac with a pump. Every bit you vacuum the water will be pumped out of the tank. The vac. will bring in more h2o than the pump will pump out. I have one and I vac. for a while and pull the nozzle out of the water for a while ti let the pump drain the canister.

Can you post a link to the i y'all have? I have been looking for what yous describe. Currently, I utilise a Shop Vac that we utilise till it is full of h2o and we close it off and manually open up it upwards to cascade out the water on the lawn. Yours sounds very interesting....

  5. seems to me a shop vac must also have air in the line to work properly ,I use one to make clean a below ground level filter , if i only push the hose below the h2o level it kinda locks upwards. I have to suck the water from the surface gradually with some air/water mix....

  7. I also have ane of these Shop-Vacs from Lowes. It works adequately well, just detect it a bit too weak on the five pes deep bottom. Information technology does suck up goop and it does pump out the water very well. The suction side will out perform the pump side, so you do have to pull suction tube out of the water or the unit will shut down. It works real well for sucking upwardly goop from bottom of skimmer or other containers. Worth the $$$ IMHO.

  8. Longfin Lover,

Not sure who you asked the question of, but in my case the vac will suck upwardly loose cord algae. The water pump will not pump it out as there is a filter with a foam wrap effectually it that keeps the algae within. Y'all will take to dump the goop from the vac afterwards the water is tuckered.

  10. Folks thanks for the information.

The chance I took was calculated, but human am I bad at math!

  11. There are several quality pond vacuums available, but the Pondovac 4 is the unit our technicians use when servicing ponds for our customers. They are significantly faster than other systems and practise a amend job removing muck from deeper ponds. Promise this helps...

  12. A friend told me how she modified her shop vac to work without having to unscrew the drain. She bought a length of blue vinyl discharge hose without fittings, the blazon that rolls upward flat. She adapted, or simply fastened information technology to the external threads of the bleed plug hole with a hose clamp. When the shop vac is turned on, the suction collapses the hose closing the drain plug pigsty as the cap would ordinarily. When the canister fills upwards, y'all close off the motor, the hose then opens and the water and gunk drains. When empty, turn the motor on and resume sucking h2o and droppings. I accept not tried this still but may practice so this jump.

  13. As an option...you can drill a i 1/ii " hole towards the bottom vertical sidewall, only not besides low...put in appropriate size plug...when yous become going with the vacuuming pull the rubber plug out and it will drain out the side as it continues to vacuum.....if you accept a 2" hose, employ a 2" stopper to maintain same in as same out after the volume gets up in the canister...if you dont have an surface area that you lot can just permit it flow onto the footing into a floor drain....alter a piece of rubber flex type tubing to direct the waste where you demand it to go...use what you lot have or go what you demand to adapt your application....it may work well for y'all...DIY inventiveness is the primal....OASE vacs are nice, but anybody can't beget a high dollar shop vac...lol...just i practice accept ane...it was a gift from my son in police force

  14. How about a check valve on the drain plug??
